Datin Hajah Hasnah binti Haji Ibrahim is the Permanent Secretary (Coordinating for Economic Policies) at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry while also concurrently serving as the Managing Director of Perbadanan Tabung Amanah Islam Brunei (Perbadanan TAIB), Brunei Darussalam’s oldest Islamic financial institution.

Her career spans both public and private sectors and she has extensive experience in all manner of legal affairs, multi-jurisdictional asset management and recovery, corporate governance, investment management, financial services, economic development and strategic leadership.

Datin Hajah Hasnah was appointed as Managing Director of Perbadanan TAIB in March 2020, where she has led the strategic direction and substantive transformation of the organisation, including revitalisations of the core-banking and IT infrastructure that have enabled award winning digital banking products, enhanced Islamic financial services, strengthened governance practices, and targeted expansions of Perbadanan TAIB’s investment and business activities.

Prior to joining Perbadanan TAIB, she held various senior positions in the public service and at the Brunei Investment Agency (BIA). During her tenure with the BIA, she served as Assistant Managing Director, Head of Legal and Corporate Affairs and Principal Counsel. In these roles, she was involved in multi-jurisdictional legal, corporate and investment-related matters, contributing to the organisation’s strategic and operational activities.

She subsequently served as a Senior Special Duties Officer at the Ministry of Finance, on secondment to the Brunei Economic Development Board (“BEDB”) as Assistant Chief Executive Officer, and subsequently as Acting Chief Executive Officer, where she contributed towards national economic development initiatives and investment promotion. Her career next saw her serving as Assistant Solicitor General at the Attorney General’s Chambers, where she held portfolios overseeing the Civil Division and International Affairs Division.

Datin Hajah Hasnah holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) (Honours) from the University of London and was admitted as a Barrister-at-Law of England and Wales. She is also admitted to the Brunei Bar.
