SIGNING CEREMONY
MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN PDS ABATTOIR SDN BHD AND PONDOK ABANG ON THE EXPORT OF PROCESSED BEEF PRODUCTS TO SINGAPORE
Singapore, Wednesday, 20th November 2024
1.Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of Singapore have once again reached another milestone in its strategic partnership to enhance economic diversification with the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding between PDS Abattoir Sdn Bhd and Pondok Abang in Singapore. This significant partnership aims to drive economic growth for Brunei Darussalam and as well as enhancing and ensuring food security for both countries.
2.Yang Mulia Asma Naqiyyah binti Haji Abdullah, Board of Director of PDS Abattoir Sdn Bhd signed the MoU on behalf of PDS Abattoir Sdn Bhd, while Yang Mulia Haji Abdul Rahman bin Yad Ali, founder of Pondok Abang signed on behalf of Pondok Abang. Present to witness the signing ceremony was Yang Mulia Hajah Tutiaty binti Haji Abdul Wahab, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Primary Resource and Tourism, and Mr. Damian Chan, Chief Executive Officer of Singapore Food Agency (SFA) Singapore, as Co-Chairs of the Brunei Darussalam-Singapore Food Supply Working Group. This signing ceremony was held in conjunction to the 4th Food Supply Working Group Meeting, held in Singapore.
3.The signing of this MOU marks a significant breakthrough in the nation’s economic journey, as it represents Brunei Darussalam’s first commercial-scale export of processed beef products to the Republic of Singapore. The export of processed beef is made possible by the joint cooperation between the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism and various agencies in streamlining the regulatory processes and ensuring Brunei Darussalam’s beef products meet international quality standards. This further underscores Brunei Darussalam’s commitment to enhance its food security, improving the competitiveness of local products in global markets, and strengthening bilateral trade between both countries.
4.As Brunei Darussalam continues to explore new avenues for economic growth, this MoU represents a pivotal moment in its journey towards diversifying its economy in line with the country’s aspiration to grow export. PDS Abattoir Sdn Bhd will begin its export activities in the first quarter of 2025. PDS Abattoir Sdn Bhd is a subsidiary company under Darussalam Assets Sdn Bhd.
