THE 10th ASIA-PACIFIC ECONOMIC COOPERATION (APEC)
FOOD SECURITY MINISTERIAL MEETING (FSMM)

Incheon, Republic of Korea – Ministers responsible for food security across the
Asia-Pacific region gathered on 10th August 2025 in Incheon for the 10th APEC
Food Security Ministerial Meeting, chaired by H.E. Song Mi Ryung, Minister of
Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs of the Republic of Korea. Joined by
representatives from ABAC, ASEAN, PECC, and OECD, the ministers reaffirmed
their commitment to the APEC Putrajaya Vision 2040 and collaborative action to
ensure a resilient and inclusive food system across the region.
Brunei Darussalam was represented by the Charge De’ Affairs in Republic of Korea,
Ministry of Foreign Affairs who attended on behalf of the Minister of Primary
Resources and Tourism. Under the 2025 theme, “Building a Sustainable
Tomorrow: Connect, Innovate, Prosper,” ministers stressed the importance of
innovation in agri-food systems. The meeting recognize the importance of
promoting more sustainable and resilient food systems through the efficient use of
agricultural resources, and implementing of policies and approaches that support
sustainable agricultural productivity growth.
This meeting also discussed on multiple and interrelated challenges affecting food
systems, including climate change, labor shortages, and supply chain disruptions. A
strong focus was placed on the adoption of digital technologies, such as artificial
intelligence, blockchain, remote sensing, and precision farming. Ministers called for
greater inclusivity in digital transformation to bridge the digital divide and ensure
that technology is accessible, culturally appropriate, and effective in reducing food
loss and waste.
In the meeting, the representative of the Honourable Minister of Primary Resources
and Tourism iterated the importance of continued investment in R&D and smart
farming systems to increasing production, improving quality of food products while
minimizing supply chain disruptions. She further mentioned that the transformative
potential of AI in enhancing innovation and resilience in agri-food systems is
important and is working toward a data-driven, digitally enabled ecosystem as well
as continuously promoting youth involvement in agritech.
A mid-term review of the APEC Food Security Roadmap Towards 2030
highlighted progress made and affirmed the importance of ongoing efforts. Ministers
and APEC member economies expressed their appreciation to the host and support
for the deeper public-private partnerships and enhanced cross-fora cooperation
within APEC to ensure lasting food security across the Asia-Pacific.
